What is a Type H Back Pressure Valve (BPV)?
The Heshka Oil type H back pressure valve (BPV) is a type H one way check valve also known as a non-return valve or NRV.
The back pressure control valve is used to safely seal the tubing pressure while the blowout preventer is removed and the wellhead tree is installed. The BPV also allows for fluid to be circulated down the tubing and prevents backflow.
Type H Back Pressure Valve Design
The Heshka Oil Type H Back Pressure Valve is made up of 5 components:
- Body
- Stem
- Piston
- Spring
- OD seal
The piston is typically made of a stainless steel material. It has a seal that’s molded to allow the piston to seal against the body of the valve. The spring is made from Inconel and runs over the stem. The last component is the OD seal, which sits just beneath the threading and is made from either HNBR or Viton material, depending on the requirements specified by the customer.
The outer diameter (OD) threading on these valves provides strength for extreme pressures without significantly reducing the tubing hanger bore size.
